Unit 5 Emotions and feelings Dominoes Warmer 1 Put students in pairs. Give each pair a copy ofthe collocations (Part A ofthe worksheet) describing emotions and decide whether they are positive or negative emotions. 2 Conduct whole-class feedback Input 1 Give out the remaining copies of Part A so each student has a copy and explain that this shows which adverbs collocate with which adjectives, : 2. Ask students to work individually to try to memorise the collocation. 3. After one minute lead a discussion about what memory techniques they used to remember the collocations. 4 Give the students a further minute to try to memorise the collocations, perhaps using one Of the other memory techniques that was discussed, Practice 1 Put students in pairs and give each pair a copy of the sentences (Part B ofthe worksheet), Explain that they should try to replace the word very or quit in each sentence with a more interesting adverb. Give each group of three or four students a copy of the dominoes (you may need to enlarge these on the photocopier). Ask the students to divide up the dominoes equally between them. 2. Explain that they must take it in turns to put down a domino that collocates with the word that tis placed next to 3. The students work as a team. if any player cannot go, the other students must check that student's dominoes and see ifthey can make any suggestions. Stress that this is a team. activity, 4 Ifa player really cannot go, the next player takes a turn 5 Allteams work together until they have put down as many of the dominoes as possible.
