In a part of the city west of Washigton Square, had a city called Greenwich Village where the
painters discovered something possible and valuable things. There, Sue an Johnsy, both
painters and friends, lived in the top of a building. In Spring, Johnsy was sick of Pneumonia, the
doctor said that she didn’t want to live. Why?. Sue said that she wanted to go to Italy and paint
a picture of the Bay of Naples. The doctor didn’t understand the reason. This day, Sue visited
her. She was counting something, the leaves that fall the breaches of the old tree. When the
last one falls, Johnsy must go. Sue wanted to her live. Then, Sue visited to Mr. Behrman, an old
painter, who always talked of painting a masterpiece but he had never yet started it. Sue told
him about Johnsy, but he didn’t mind. This day, Sue visited to Johnsy, there the tree had only
one leaf, Sue was worried. The days passed, but the last leaf didn’t fall. Johnsy was wrong and
apologizes with Sue. One day later, the doctor said that Johnsy will be better but Mr. Behrman
was sick with Pneumonia, the doctor didn’t understand how someone had been under the rain
a lot of time. Mr. Behrman died few days later. Finally, Sue and Johnsy, observed that the leaf
was painted behind the Windows, so the leaf never fall. Mr. Behrman had painted this so his
died. The leaf represented him masterpiece.
