Dear People,
Itis with great pleasure that | recommend Meghan Green for a teaching position with your district. 1 had
the honor of working with her as she completed her general secondary certification internship in the
winter semester of 2018 at Romulus Middle School in Romulus Community Schools, Meghan’s
‘cooperating teacher was DeAnn Covert, who taught middle school science.
For the first few days, Meghan watched her cooperating teacher present lessons and worked with small
‘group instruction. From the beginning, both the cooperating teacher and I knew that we were witnessing
‘an exemplary teacher. Meghan’s enthusiasm came across in a variety of ways, but mostly in the
relationships she quickly formed with the students in her classroom. She presided in the classroom in a
‘number of ways, including direct instruction, inquiry-based lessons, modeling, group projects and
presentations, and supervising students as they interacted individually with self-paced lessons on the
district’s technology.
Later in the semester, Meghan’s cooperating teacher had a family emergency and Meghan’s maturity,
professionalism and poise were evidenced when she stepped in to take charge of the classes. On some of
the days, the district provided a substitute teacher, but oven then, Meghan was in command of the lessons,
and used a repertoire of classroom management techniques to Keep the learning on schedule. On the days
‘wien Meghan was the sub, she was supported by neighboring colleagues and “drive-by” visits by the
administrators. Given her handling of this in such a professional and responsible way, as an experienced
administrator, I would hite Meghan if I had the opportunity.
Atall observations, Meghan was prepared with pedagogically-sound lesson plans, with clear expected
outcomes for the students, which were aligned with state benchmarks. She completed Eastern Michigan
University’s requirement of documenting a culminating teaching experience through a process called
ed TPA, which is @ program pioneered at Stanford University. Each of our general education teaching,
interns are required to prepare three to five lesson plans within a learning segment and thoroughly
demonstrate her achievements within this performance assessment and self-evaluatory tool. Meghan
excelled in this process.
Meghan’s classroom demeanor is consistent with what would be expected in a more experienced teacher.
She invites classroom participation during her presentation, engaging both the students” interests and
attention. The explanations she gives for the content and activities are thorough. She encourages
students” questions with her candor and good-natured humor. She promotes saléty in lab activities by
being attentive and pro-active. She is well-regarded by the students, administrators and other teachers.
| make no hesitation in recommending Meghan as a prospective professional educator. Ihave been
teaching for 34 years and have supervised many student teachers. During my experience, I have seen few
novice teachers with Meghan’s candor, demeanor and professionalism. She will be an asset to any
district. ‘Thank you for considering Meghan as a candidate for the position. If | may be of further
assistance, please contact me at rbever! | @emich,edu or by phone at 586 718 5076.
