Tutorial 2 – Group of not more than 4 (This group is only meant for tutorial)

All-In Hypermarket is widely recognised as a convenient one-stop hypermarket chain that caters to a mix of
consumers from housewives to students and working professionals. The chain sells a wide range of household
grocery products ranging from frozen goods and fresh products to textiles, garments and shoes, as well as
electrical goods such as home kitchen items and audio-visual appliances. There are now 25 All-In
hypermarkets in Malaysia. The Headquarter is located in Klang Valley housing the management team, the
administration staffs as well as team handling the e-commerce operation.

Recently, the senior managers are facing difficulty in attaining accurate information, lack of applications that
mimic existing business practices and bad interfaces. A group of consultants (which is your team) was hired to
review the IT/IS strategic planning for the company.

1. Explain what is IT/IS strategic planning and provide reasons why IT/IS strategic planning is an important
task to All-In Hypermarket (6 marks)
2. Explain what is Information Systems architecture and provide any 2 reasons to justify why information
system architecture would benefit All-In Hypermarket (9 marks).
3. Use your own assumption to list any 7 departments for All-In hypermarket and the associate Information
Systems to be used by each department. [Hint: Each of the Information System is used solely by the user of
each department) (14 marks)
4. As the IT Consultant, you have to compare and contrast the 3 types of IS architecture (Centralized,
Decentralized and Distributed System) for the implementation feasibility. By using a diagram for each of
the IS architecture, explain how would you proposed those 3 types of IS architecture. You are to consider
the types of Information Systems and their users while designing the diagram. [Hint: which type of IS
feasible for which type of IS architecture] (15 marks)
