REFLECTION ‘The sent’ are first of all ‘the called’. It matters to see it that way round. Jesus
called people to himself first, to relationship, to prayer and worship, to discipleship. But they
did not stay at his side for ever. Those whom he called, he also sent. And so it is with us. In
fact, to be called by Christ is to be sent by Christ. The Christ who brings healing and
wholeness, peace and salvation to a world wracked with sin and selfishness and death. We
who are called by him are commissioned by him to live his way – and in so doing, to bring his
life to others.
MASHAM YOUTH GROUP Meets on Thursdays in term-time from 6.00 – 7.15 p.m. (mostly
in the Town hall but sometimes in St. Mary’s Church). It is open to anybody in year 5 or above
is welcome. What do we do? A lot of different things - treasure hunts, games, cooking,

PALESTINE 2019: PILGRIMAGE AND POLITICAL AWARENESS TRIP. 4 TH -11TH
FEBRUARY with Canon Michael Glanville-Smith and The Revd Alison Askew
This trip is unusual, if not unique, in that it combines elements of pilgrimage, an exposure to
the realities of life in the Occupied West Bank and a chance to meet and worship with local
Christians, as well as visiting some amazing projects and organisations.
The cost is £670 per person in a twin / double room and £860 per person in a single room.
There will be an additional £20 per person for gratuities for drivers, guides, speakers etc.
The cost of the trip does not include the price of the flight, which you are asked to book
yourself.

MASHAM CHURCH CHOIR St. Mary's Youth choir has space for one new child preferably
in school years 3 or 4. We are also in need of one adult soprano and bass to join the main choir

PRAM PRAISE – Masham A service for young children and their parents/carers. The
second Tuesday in the month. The next service will be on Tuesday 10th July at 2.30 p.m. A
very short and informal service, followed by toys to play with and a chance for adults to chat
over coffee/tea. The service is geared to the needs of very young, pre-school, children.
Everything will finish in time for parents to collect older children from school.
PETS SING PRAISES! Sunday 15th July at 11.00 a.m.
Fearby Village Green
Organised by St. Paul’s Church, Healey it will be a Service of
Thanksgiving and Animal Blessing. All are welcome, with or
without pets. Smaller animals such as gerbils and rabbits
should be in carrying boxes, and dogs should be on leads.
The service will be followed by a picnic lunch – please bring
your own picnic and something to sit on.
In the event of bad weather the service will be held in St.
Paul’s Church, Healey.
2 CORINTHIANS 12: 2-10 I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up
to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows. And I
know that such a person—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows—
was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted
to repeat. On behalf of such a one I will boast, but on my own behalf I will not boast, except of
my weaknesses. But if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I will be speaking the truth. But I
refrain from it, so that no one may think better of me than what is seen in me or heard from me,
even considering the exceptional character of the revelations. Therefore, to keep me from being
too elated, a thorn was given to me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me, to keep
me from being too elated. Three times I appealed to the Lord about this, that it would leave me,
but he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.’ So, I
will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
Therefore I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities for the
sake of Christ; for whenever I am weak, then I am strong.
MARK 6: 1-13 He left that place and came to his home town, and his disciples followed him.
On the sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astounded.
They said, ‘Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been given to him?
What deeds of power are being done by his hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary
and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not his sisters here with us?’ And
they took offence at him. Then Jesus said to them, ‘Prophets are not without honour, except in
their home town, and among their own kin, and in their own house.’ And he could do no deed
of power there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and cured them. And he was
amazed at their unbelief. Then he went about among the villages teaching. He called the
twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean
spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no
money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them,
‘Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not
welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet
as a testimony against them.’ So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast
out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
