Music in Cagliari

Cagliari has been the birthplace of


important musicians including the
composer Ennio Porrino and mandolin
player Giuseppe Anedda, as well as of
several singers as tenors Giovanni Matteo
Mario and Piero Schiavazzi, baritone Angelo
Romero, sopranos Carmen Melis and Giusy
Devinu and contralto Bernadette Manca di
Nissa.
Ennio Porrino
1910-1959

Ennio Porrino was an italian composer and


teacher who was born in Cagliari.
His best known work is the symphonic
poem “Sardegna”, a tribute to his native
Sardinia.
In 1956 he becames the director of
Conservatory of Music of Cagliari “Giovanni
Pierluigi da Palestrina”.
Giuseppe Anedda
1912-1997

Giuseppe Anedda was a mandolin virtuoso.


In 1968 he performed in Igor Stravinsky’s
new ballet, Agon. After his performance
Stravinsky himself shout “Bravo
Mandolino!” and shooks hand with Anedda.
He is considered the best mandolin player
ever.
In 2008 the road that connect the
Conservatory of Music to the Opera House
was dedicated to Anedda.
Teatro Lirico di Cagliari

The Teatro Lirico di Cagliari is an Opera


House in Cagliari. Is the main theatre of the
city.
In it you can see concerts, operas and
ballets.
It’s a structure
of concrete
and glass that
it extends on
an area of
5000m2.

The roof is
covered
whit
burnished
copper.
The main hall
have an area of
1800m2 and it’s
composed by
three levels,
with two
loggias, paved
with parquet.

The
proscenium
and the walls
are covered
of
plasterboard
The stage have a
width of 22-23m and
a depth between 12
and 25m, with the
trellis at a height of
23m. The proscenium
is 9m high.
There are also
some secondary
rooms, used for
rehearsals.
