The film criticism in Colombia starts in the 50’s mostly with film comments written for
newspaper – Alvaro Cepeda Samudio, Luis Vincens who had work in the Ecran francaise
and broght texts from Europe. García Marquez worte in “La jirafa” and “El espectador”.

A film should be closed and sufficient. Total, compact and smooth as a stone in the
river. All the methods to approach its periphery -history, sociology, psychoanalysis, all
the erudition or cultural tools- are legitimate, useful, and to some point, necessary. But
they are all, as well, in the last instant unessential, in as much as (and in the best
scenario) they just add some clarities to something that preceded, to something that was
already there, in the materiality of the frame, the statue or the film
