Monique: Can you tell me something about your life – before you became so
famous?
Grace: Sure. What would you like to know?
M: Let´s start from the beginning. Where were you born?
G: Well, I was born in a small town in Maryland, but we moved to the Big
Apple* when I was four. I consider myself a New Yorker because that´s
where I really grew up.
M: And when did you begin singing?
G: I guess I began when I was six- in church. I had to memorize all the songs
because I was too young to read the words.
M: How interesting. And where did you go to school? In New York City?
G: Well, I went to grade school and high school there.
M: And what did you do after that?
G: I came to Paris – right after I graduated, in fact.
M: Really? Why did you decide to come here?
G: Well, I had a scholarship at the Paris Conservatory of Music. I wanted to be
an opera singer at that time, believe it or not.
M: But I guess you changed your mind, didn´t you?
G: Well, I made a disco record five years ago, and it was an enormous hit. So
here I am- still singing disco music.
M: You can´t argue with success, can you?

LET´S PREPARE A CV
PREPAREMOS UN CV
1- What is a CV?
It´s a Curriculum Vitae. This Latin expression means “information about your skills
and qualifications, that is, everything you have studied and achieved”.
In a CV you must write relevant information about you as a person. That is age,
marital status, address, telephone number. You must also include details about you
as a professional, stating your degree, experience, courses for professional impro-
vement, and general qualifications, such as other languages of which you have
good knowledge and whether you can use a computer.
Yes, it is. The way you organize all this information is very important, because your
prospective employers will get an idea of you through this document, in many
cases before meeting you in person.
