Lowell! These pathways programs give you a unique opportunity as an
international student to attend an amazing, dynamic university a short
drive from historic Boston, renowned as the educational center of the
globe. You will have the opportunity to enroll in undergraduate degree
programs, pre-master graduate programs, and intensive academic
English, and through these programs complete your U.S. bachelor’s
orgraduate degree.

UMass Lowell: learning with purpose
UMass Lowell is a comprehensive,
national research university located
in the heart of a diverse community.
The campus offers its more than
17,000 students bachelor’s, master’s
and doctoral degrees in business,
engineering, education, fine arts, health
and environment, humanities, liberal
arts, sciences, and social sciences.
For more than a century, UMass Lowell
has been preparing students to work in
the real world, solve real life problems,
and help real people. The university
began as the Lowell Normal School, a
teaching college founded in 1894, and
the Lowell Textile School, founded in
1895 to train technicians and managers
for the textile industry. Over the next
75 years, both institutions extended
their offerings to meet the growing
needs of the region.
Lowell State and Lowell Tech, as they
were then known, merged in 1975 to
form the University of Lowell. The
campus became part of the University
of Massachusetts system in 1991.

Program (PMP) at UMass Lowell, which are both designed to prepare you
for university studies in the United States.

Concerts, social, and athletic events are held frequently on campus.

There are many places on each of the
campuses to meet people and hang out.
These include Fox Common on East
Campus, O’Leary Learning Commons
on South Campus, and University
Crossing connecting all three campuses.
These venues offer large screen TVs,

The 65,000 square foot Campus
Recreation Center (CRC) at UMass
Lowell is a state-of-the-art facility

Transportation
The no cost university transportation
system transports you around campus
seven days a week. Any activity that is
available on-campus is only a quick
shuttle trip away. Most university
buildings are within walking distance.
The Lowell Regional Transit Authority
(LRTA) also provides a public bus
service to campus, originating at the
Kennedy Bus Transfer Station at the
Gallagher Intermodal Transportation
Center. The MBTA (Massachusetts Bay
Transit Authority) provides a commuter
rail service from Lowell to Boston,
New York and beyond, seven days a
week from the Gallagher Center.
Lowell is only 35 minutes from the
heart of Boston and four hours from
New York City.
Campus security
Lowell was named by the National
Crime Prevention Council as one of
six safest cities in the United States.
UMass Lowell is in a safe location, and
in addition the university offers campus
security 24hrs a day. The services are
provided provided through both the
city of Lowell Police and the UMass
Lowell Police. The UMass Lowell Blue
Light phone system allows you to
contact the UMass Lowell Police from
many locations on campus to receive
help immediately in an emergency.
Advising/tutoring
Navitas at UMass Lowell provides
tutoring support and academic
advising to all students. Students
have access to one-on-one tutoring by
qualified instructors. Additional support
is available through The Center for
Learning and Academic Support
Services (CLASS). Tutoring is free of
charge and is accessible to all during
the day and evening hours.
Health services
Student Health Services are located right
on campus and help meet all students’
health care needs while studying at the
university. All international students are
provided with Student Health Insurance
through Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.
There are no fees for any care given
on-campus. Student Health Services
operate on both appointment and
walk-in schedules. Students are
encouraged to utilize Health Services
for any illness or routine health care.

Social Psychology
Although community social psychology
shares its historical roots with clinical
psychology, it is very different from the
traditional, one-on-one counseling
model that comes to mind when one
thinks of the field of clinical psychology.
Community social psychology aims to
go beyond the individual, focusing
instead on the community, environment,
and larger influencing factors that affect
people’s daily lives (culture, politics,
economics, healthcare, etc.). The field
of community social psychology is
devoted to advancing theory, research,

neighborhood, organizational, state,

Criminal Justice
Established in 1984, the Criminal
Justice Master of Arts program has had
a long history of producing dedicated,
well rounded students who are in top

agencies. With the dynamic nature of
criminal justice, more and more

employees. The School of Criminology
and Justice Studies at UMass Lowell
