Your Hosts
Welcome to Salt Spray Cottage.

Michael and I (Niki), wish you an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

When we come to Venus Bay it’s usually because we’ve had a busy month, or in
some cases few months and are in need of some fresh country air, good food
and a splash of simplicity thrown back into our lives.

We use Venus Bay as a homely retreat. We love bush walking, sight seeing, play-
ing music, playing board games and just relaxing and enjoying one another’s
company.

In my spare time, I love to paint. I really hope you enjoy the art work that we
have provided for you on the walls. Some are done by me, others by my very
creative younger sister and some are just beautiful scenic photos that I enjoy
looking at!

We hope you too can enjoy the simplistic lifestyle, if only for a weekend, which
Venus Bay has to offer you and your companions during your stay.
Handy Hints for your comfort
We love our home and really hope you enjoy it too.

We have included this section to give you a few hints for making your stay even
more comfortable.

It goes without saying that we have put in much effort to make our home look
clean, presentable and beautiful for you. We want to share it with others as we
love it so much. We would be greatly most appreciative if you would please
treat our home with a high level of care.

Item 1: The wonderful 55’’ Samsung TV

Yes, indeed, you can enjoy movies in style with this fantastic television. Please
be careful when adjusting the TV to your liking. We can get some channels on
television, but not all of them. Help yourself to any of our DVDs on the shelf by
the fireplace. Please pop them neatly back on the shelf after use!

Item 2: The Shower

We pride ourselves on our environmentally friendly watertank. Please treat our
water with respect and limit your shower to 2 minutes!

Item 3: The Fireplace

Please ensure that before you use the fireplace you take undo the chain on the
right hand side of the opening. This ensures a breathable experience when
snuggling up on the couch beside the open fire.

Please also provide your own wood and kindling for the fire. There is plenty of
kindling in the back garden if you wish to fossic around. Matches should be on
the mantle above the fireplace.
Item 4: The Washing Machine
Once again, on the issue of water. Please use the washing machine when needed
but with care to only put it on with a full load. Turn the water taps on behind the
machine when you need to put on a load, and please remember to turn it off again.
Also, please ensure that the hose from the washing machine is pointing downwards
and into the sink! Otherwise, there may be a flooding issue . . .

Item 5: Linen
We have included 2 beautiful double beds for you which are both fitted with elec-
tric blankets for your comfort during those Winter months. There’s also a spare dou-
ble mattress under one of the beds and a single bed too. Please pop on your own
bed linen (like sheets and pillow cases) before settling down to a wonderful night of
rest. If it’s a bit nippy help yourself to extra blankets which are located in each of the
cupboards.

Item 6: Board Games

Yay! My favourite part . . . I love Scrabble!! Enoy the games and the baby toys if you
are at that stage in life and help yourself to these things. They are located in the
cupboard in the second bedroom. Please pop them neatly back with all of the piec-
es in the correct boxes after your use.

Item 7: You!
You are obviously here in need of a break - so enjoy yourself, enjoy the nature and
we wish you a fantastic trip!

Item 8: Oh Dear . . . Something’s not working . . .

Please do not hesitate to contact our wonderful agents, Lorraine or Rachel at Alex
Scott, in Venus Bay should you have any urgent matters that need tending to. They
can be contacted on 5663 7700 or 0427 635 265. We have asked them to assist us
in helping you out because they are local and can fix problems quickly, should they
arise.
Item 9: Water Pressure is Unusually Light?
If the water in the shower is coming down as a mere trickle it means that the
pump switch has been switched off. It can be found in the most obscure of loca-
tions in the ‘sun drenched’ living room, on the wall opposite the huge window,
close to the ground (it’s the middle switch on a power point outlet) between the
two brown leather couches.

While we hope that it is never switched off, occasionally it may be accidentally

switched off by a previous tenant. This would mean that you simply need to lo-
cate the switch and turn it on again. Thank you!!

Item 10: Cleaning Rules

We pay cleaners after every guest has used our home to come in and clean the
bathroom, toilet and all of the floors.

We would like to respectfully request that our guests leave the doonas and
bedding in the manner which they found it (which is hopefully tidy and on the
beds!) and wash, dry and put away their own dishes.

Please let us know if you find the house untidy on arrival as we trust that each
tenant has left the house looking spic and span so that additional cleaning costs
are not incurred.

Item 11: Rubbish Disposal

Please dispose of your own rubbish. There is a transfer station just off the main
road leading to Beach No. 3 and another one in Inverloch.

Item 12: Split System Cooling and Heating

The split system heater may require up to 5 minutes to begin pumping out
‘warm’ or ‘cool’ air depending on the temperature which you have selected.

If the remote isn’t working, the batteries may need to be replaced. Please contact
Alex Scott Real Estate to supply some spare batteries.
Guide Book
Nothing beats local knowledge. We have compiled this section to
help you make your stay even more enjoyable!

Venus Bay
Venus BayWalking and Beaches
B- 12 Doyles Road, Venus Bay

At the end of Doyles Road is a sandy inlet beach. There are many little mud crabs
when the tide is out and beautiful clear waters which stretch on for miles. There is a
great little walk through the bushes.
Venus Bay Walking and Beaches
C - 826 Lees Road, Venus Bay

At the end of Lees Road is the entrance to the bush walk to Point Smythe. It is a
rugged walk which takes about 2 hours return. Point Smythe offers magnificent
views out across the inlet to Inverloch. The return trip can be taken along the beach
where you would end at Beach 5, walk up the stairs and then down the hill to Ath-
erton Drive, where you would return toSalt Spray Cottage.

D - No 5 Beach Road, Venus Bay

The magnificent surf beach of Venus Bay. Turn right for a 3 hour round trip walk to
Point Smythe. Turn left to head towards Beach 1 (a patrolled beach during the Sum-
mer months).

which ends at a beautiful playground - perfect for the little ones. There are some
quieter areas for a romantic picnic for two!

stores for stocking up on essentials that cannot be purchased at the even smaller
grocery stall in Venus Bay/Tarwin!

pub, at Moos of Meeniyan or at one of the little cottage style local bakeries.

joying the magnificence of the rocky beaches. I love this place and just find it a
perfect little day out.

The Prom - need I say more. I could spend a whole year here just marvelling at
the natural beauty that this gorgeous National Park has to offer. From day trips of
bush walking to overnight walks and hiking - this place is definitely worth a visit!

Leongatha and Koromburra

Pretty country towns, on the way home be sure to stop in at some of the local
wineries or even take a detour for a devonshire tea at the wonderful little Stock-
yard Teahouse on the Bass highway.
