Principles for Evaluation of Teaching

Purpose

The purpose of the Principles for evaluation of teaching is to ensure that the students experience
that the academic content and pedagogic quality of the teaching and the individual course elements
support them in achieving the defined learning outcome.

Principles

Evaluation of teaching at SDU will help ensure

 that students are systematically included in evaluating teaching

 that the academic content and pedagogic quality of the teaching are evaluated as part of the
general evaluation of teaching
 that teachers assess their teaching as part of the evaluation
 that educational elements placed outside the university, e.g. stays abroad, corporate
internships and clinical internships, are evaluated
 that evaluation results are applied systematically in the ongoing quality and development
efforts concerning the study programme as a whole , as well as the individual courses

Procedure

A faculty-level plan for systematic evaluation of teaching requires individual teachers to assess their
own teaching.

The individual faculty describes the method it has chosen for evaluation of teaching. It is thus up to
each faculty to decide which evaluation form and method is the most appropriate in relation to its
study programmes. The description includes a plan for follow-up and how to use evaluation results.
