Abstract
Acid potassium phthalate (KHF) is an intermediate salt of phthalic acid that is often used because it has high
purity and is not affected by CO2. The KHF was synthesized from phthalic anhydride which was dissolved in
hot water to later add potassium hydroxide (limiting reagent), the solution was concentrated and crystallized
in an ice bath. The crystals obtained were filtered under vacuum and then dried. For the determination of the
purity, a titration of the KHF crystals was carried out with NaOH solution previously prepared; said analysis
showed that the reagent had an average purity of 81,43% in addition a determination of the melting point of
the compound was also made, obtaining a temperature range of 320 - 340 ° C.
