I am applying for SMU's Bachelor Of Social Science Degree.

Psychology has been a subtle but intergral part of my life for many years. It was
first recognized in secondary school where I found that acting in a certain way
would theoretically net me
more friends using the Benjamin Franklin effect. Overtime, it grew to become an
interest and an interest that desired to use psychology to help others. I have
always been fascinated with
human behavior and this fascination has helped many of my friends make decisions
that benefit their lives. However, my fascination for Psychology turned into a
passion when I found that my
brother of 10 years old has Dyslexia and ADHD. Thus, I am often tasked with the
responsibility of taking care of my brother when my parents are at work. The
experience has thus allowed me
to observe the irregularities an individual with a psychological disorder has
compared to a healthy individual. Though peripheral in lieu of other psychological
disorders such as
Schizophrenia and Identity Disorders, such an incident has caused me to research
extensively into the world of psychology. However, equipped with the facilities in
SMU,
the ability to conduct proper research and statistical means would heavily enable
one to apply psychology in the real world sustaining real consequences and one
where I can make a real
impacts on society.
As an individual with a similar passion for dance, it has allowed me to meet people
from all walks of life. I took on the challenge to lead a team and learnt that
while each individual is
unique and faces their unique challenges, compassion, open-mindedness and
willingness is needed to help them overcome their challenges. Thus, it has inspired
me to view
clinical psychology as a future career prospect to help individuals who seeks help.
