Tom’s Diner

Suzanne Vega

I am sitting in the morning And I'm ___________ to the horoscope

At the diner on the corner And looking for the funnies
I am ____________ at the counter When I'm _____ someone watching me
For the man to pour the coffee And so I raise my head

And he fills it only halfway There's a woman on the outside

And before I even argue Looking inside, does she see me?
He is looking out the window No she does not really see me
At somebody coming in Cause she sees her own reflection

"It is always nice to see you" And I'm ______________ not to notice
Says the man behind the counter That she's hitching up her skirt
To the woman who has come in And while she's _______________ her
She is ____________ her umbrella stockings
Her hair has gotten wet
And I look the other way
As they are kissing their ‘hellos’ Oh, this rain it will continue
And I'm ________ not to see them Through the morning as I'm listening
And instead I pour the milk To the bells of the cathedral…

I open up the paper I am _______________ of your voice...

There's a story of an actor
Who had died while he was drinking
It was no one I had heard of
