Amistad

The movie featured the immorality of humans. The pain and suffering of Africans was

incomparable. They were reduced to mere things; their human dignity was violated; money

became more valuable than their lives; necessities such as water and food became option; their

labor was given more importance than their being; in short, they were victims of a gruesome

enslavement. The movie showed how the slaves were gathered and brought to market and the

owners having complete power and control over them. It presented the state of slavery in the past

where slaves were deprived of their own lives. We must be reminded of the fact that laborers are

more important than the product they produce or the service that they give. ‘Slave’ is a social

construct made by people who think that they have authority over other people. These other people

shall not be used merely as means but rather as ends. They are also human beings who must be

respected and be given freedom because they are also bearers of moral worth. To violate freedom

is to violate humanity.
