Banking & Financial Awareness

1. First domestic bank of India to open a branch in Yangon, Myanmar___State Bank of India.
Note:
 Ghanshyam Srivastava has been appointed as the chief executive of SBI Yangon branch.
 The Yangon branch is the 54th foreign branch of State Bank of India (SBI).
2. Which currency has officially become a member of the International Monetary Fund (IMF)’s basket of global reserve
currencies___Yuan.
Note:
 With this, yuan has joined the U.S. dollar, the euro, the yen and British pound in the IMF’s Special Drawing Rights
(SDR) basket.
3. How many rupees have been declared in the Income Disclosure Scheme (IDS)___65 thousand 250 crore rupees.
Note:
 The scheme was announced by the government in June this year with an aim to bring out black money from the
domestic economy.
 Those disclosing assets under the IDS will have to pay 45% tax with penalty.
4. India’s GDP growth forecast for 2016, as per World Bank’s latest report South Asia Economic Focus___7.6%.
Note:
 The fiscal deficit in previous year (April to August) had stood at 66.5% of the Budget estimates.
 Fiscal deficit is the gap between expenditure and revenue for the entire current fiscal has been pegged at Rs 5.33
lakh crore (3.5% of GDP).
5. The 2016 World Economic Forum (WEF) India Economic Summit has been inaugurated in ___New Delhi.
Note:
 The 2-day summit will focus on issues like digital transformation and regional economic integration.
 At least 600 participants from a little over 30 countries will take part.
 The theme of the summit is “Fostering an Inclusive India through Digital Transformation’.

7. RBI in its Bi-Monthly Monetary Policy (4th) Statement 2016-17 adjusted the Reverse Repo rate to___ 5.75%.
8. The first edition of the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS) 2016 has been inaugurated by___Pranab
Mukherjee.
Note:
 The 4-day summit is organized by The Energy and Research Institute (TERI) with theme “Beyond 2015: People,
Planet and Progress”.
9. The Commonwealth Finance Ministers Meeting 2016 was held in the city of USA__ Washington DC.
Note:
 The Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has chaired the Commonwealth Finance Ministers’ Meeting at the
International Monetary Fund (IMF) headquarters in Washington DC, United States.
 The CRA is a framework for the provision of support through liquidity and precautionary instruments in response
to actual or potential short-term balance of payments pressure.

 He has replaced Mustaq Ahmad, who completed his term on 5th October.

1. The International Day of Older Persons is observed on ____1st October.

2. The World Vegetarian Day (WVD) is observed on___ 1st October.
3. The International Day of Non-violence is observed on _____2nd October.
Note:
 The International Day of Non-violence is observed on 2nd October throughout the world on the birth anniversary
of Mahatma Gandhi.
 This day in India is also celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti to mark birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who was
leader of Indian independence movement and also pioneer of philosophy of non-violence.
4. The World Habitat Day (WHD) is observed every year on____ 3rd October.
Note:
 The 2016 WHD was observed on October 3 with theme “Housing at the Centre”.
 It aims to raise awareness about need for affordable housing for all in urban areas, cities and towns.

1. Who has been appointed as the new chairman of Press Trust of India___Riyadh Mathew.
Note:
 Director of Malayala Manorama Riyadh Mathew has been unanimously elected as the Chairman of Press Trust of
India (PTI).
 Press Trust of India provides news coverage and information of the region in both English and Hindi.
2. Who has been elected as the President of “The Indian Newspaper Society” (INS)___Somesh Sharma.
Note:
 He has been elected as President of “The Indian Newspaper Society” (INS) for the year 2016-17 at the 77th
annual general meeting of the INS.
3. Who has been appointed as the Executive Director(ED) of Indian Overseas Bank___R Subramania Kumar.
Note:
 The Central Government has appointed R Subramania Kumar as Executive Director (ED) of Indian Overseas Bank
(IOB).
 Kumar is currently Executive Director of Indian Bank.

9. President Pranab Mukherjee has nominated Actress and BJP leader to Rajaya Sabha____ Roopa Ganguly.
Note:
 She has been nominated on a seat vacated by cricketer turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu, who resigned in July
this year.
