Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

I will address Universal Design for Learning principles to extend and support the learning experiences
for all students by creating an audio file that students and their parents can listen to the clip as many
times as needed. This can be beneficial for students who are ELLs. In addition, I provided a transcript
so students who have hearing impairments can read the instructions.

Lesson idea implementation:

The students will bring in a penny, nickel, dime, and quarter to school. Teacher will introduce lesson
by playing a video then describing each coin. Teacher will hot glue coins in each student’s math
notebook and students will write the value of each coin beside it. Students will work in partners to
complete an activity where they will be buying items from various places (around the classroom).
Students will use coin manipulative to give the appropriate amount of money for each item. Student
learning will be assessed through observations and an observation checklist. Students will use higher
order thinking when analyzing and solving the problems.

Students learning will be extended through an in-class project where they will receive a budget (0.95)
and they will have to decide how they can plan a party for a family member. The teacher will create a
list of items and prices they can choose from to include in their party. Students will create a flyer
invitation using Microsoft Word to advertise their party. Students will present their flyer invitation to
the class to conclude the lesson. This lesson will take 2 weeks to complete. I will provide each student
with individual feedback after their presentations.

Classroom Blog and Website Creation Tools

Importance of technology:
Using a website-creation tool is critical to the project because students will need to know what they
need to bring for the lesson. This project could be completed without technology. However, without
technology it would take longer to complete. Microsoft Word will be used in the learning experience
to allow students to express their creativity digitally.
Inspiration (optional): None
Internet Safety and Student Privacy: To address the risk of internet safety, I will give students direct
links to my classroom blog. This will eliminate the risk of students detouring to inappropriate sites.
With the lesson being on my classroom blog, I can control and cannot see the content, which will
make it safe for students and their parents.

Reflective Practice: I feel the activities I created could impact student learning by giving students a
hands-on experience working with real and fake money. Student learning will be extending through
an in-class project where they will receive a budget ($0.95) and they will have to decide how they
plan a party for a family member. The teacher will create a list of items and prices they can choose
from to include in their party. Students will create a flyer invitation using Microsoft Word to advertise
their party. Microsoft Word will be used to further enhance the project.
