Purpose: IFA

1.0 PURPOSE:

The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that all works regarding Multi
Cable Transit (MCT) Installation System for Instrumentation Works shall be
done in accordance with the SADARA standards and all other applicable
international codes and standards.

2.0 SCOPE:

The scope covers the steps to be followed for the installation of


Multi Cable Transit for Instrumentation works intended for permanent
installation in the plant.

DAELIM and AIC shall ensure that the construction method of procedure is
adhered to the SADARA Standards with reference to SADARA specifications.

3.0 RESPONSIBILITIES:

The DAELIM Instrumentation Construction Manager is responsible to


plan and schedule activities for the installation execution in co-ordination with
client personnel.

It is the responsibility of the material personnel; to receive & visually inspect


the MCT Frame and Accessories, delivered on site before handling them over
to SADARA Instrument Dept. and shall be responsible for the safekeeping and
preservation of all its associated accessories that received.

It is the responsibility of the Instrument QC inspector to carry out inspection.


Check the physical condition of the MCT before installation. Any damages
found must be reported immediately to their immediate supervisor.

It is the responsibility of each group as a whole team to work and act as per
job description and functions, adhering to the requirements of each
assignment.

5.0 DEFINITIONS:

5.1) MCT Frame - is a metal frame with flange. Available with a single
opening, or in combinations with several openings in width and/or
height.

5.2) MCT Sealing Module – is a module used for perfect adaptation to a


cable or a pipe. When used with a solid core, the module functions as a
spare module for future capacity.

5.3) MCT Wedge – is used in frames with a rectangular packing space


without built-in compression. Compresses and seals the installation of
cables, pipes, modules and stayplates.

5.4) MCT Stayplates – are used for pull-out resistance against forces in
cables and pipes. To be inserted between rows of modules in frames
with a rectangular packing space and no built-in compression.

5.5) MCT Lubricant– it is used to lubricate sealing modules, wedge and


inside of the frame. It provides even compression and a secure seal.

5.6) Pre-compression Tools – is a tool used to help compressing installed


modules and stayplates to make more room for the wedge and also it
helps keeping the items in place during installation.

6.0 METHOD OF PREPARATION:

6.1) The Instrument Construction Manager/ or Superintendent shall plan


and schedule activities for the installation of the Multi Cable Transit
(MCT) in co-ordination with Civil Construction Manager/Superintendent.

6.2) Multi Cable Transit (MCT) are subject to inspection and witness by the
client.

6.3) The Project Instrument Superintendent or his designee shall prepare an


“Execution Plan” for sequence based on site Conditions. Forms,
procedures and sign off sheets for activity shall be prepared and
submitted for review and approval of the client prior to beginning of
any activity.

6.4) The Work Permit will be prepared based on the schedule of field
activities.

7.0 SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

7.1) All personnel involved in the activities shall wear complete Personal
Protective Equipments (PPE) in accordance with the Safe work
Requirements.

7.2) Conducts Job safety talk before starting the work.

7.3) Place barricade and warning sign boards in applicable locations. Restrict
personnel / equipments entering the work area.

7.4) Check adequacy and availability of all tools and equipment for erection
and installation activities, before commencement of the erection
activity.

7.5) If the weather conditions turns bad, (like sand storms, wind storms
raining or hailstorms) shall immediately coordinate to safety officer and
all works shall be stopped.

7.6) The Safety officer shall verify that all the necessary and applicable
documents, related to the safest operation, are in possession before
commencing the job.

7.7) Regular check shall be done for the inspection of scaffoldings prior to
use.

7.8) Safety procedures shall be followed at all times.

8.0 QA/QC REQUIREMENTS:

8.1) The Quality Control Program shall be as per DAELIM Project Procedure,
SADARA MIXED FEED CRACKERS Project Procedure in conjunction with
the SADARA Engineering Standard. The detailed inspection stages and
methods shall be as per the Approved Inspection and Test Plan.

8.2) The MCT and accessories shall be inspected visually for any damages
during the transportation prior to commencing the installation work.

8.3) All installed MCT shall be inspected for correct installation & elevation
as per the IFC drawings.

8.4) Inspection and test plan must be submitted ahead of time for SADARA
PMT & DAELIM approval.

8.5) All RFI’s shall be submitted 24 hours ahead of scheduled date of


inspection.

8.6) All relevant attachments including IFC Drawing must be attached on all
submitted RFI’s.
9.0 PROCEDURE:

9.1 Handling

Every Item delivered shall be inspected to ensure compliance to


specification / Data sheet & free from damages. Offloading shall be in
responsible & Safe Manner.

9.2 Issue of Document and Drawings and pre-installation check:

Ensure receipt of all related documents and IFC drawings from the client
before proceeding with transportation & installation.

9.3 Installation of Multi Cable Transit (MCT):

9.3.1) Multi Cable Transit (MCT) installations shall meet the


requirements as per IFC Drawings, Manufacturer’s
Recommendation and SADARA Specifications.

9.3.2) For a steel plate wall, MCT frame shall be full-weld at 5mm
(3/16”). Angle bar for cable tray support near the MCT shall be
60mm x 60mm x 6mm.

9.3.3) Grounding Tab (50mm x 50mm x 6mm) shall be installed in


order to provide ground connection in between interior and
exterior building cable tray using a C-Tap connector.

9.3.4) Bonding shall be provided with 70mm2 (2/0) Copper Conductor.


Route ground cable through frame from tray to tray with C-Tap
off to frame ground tab.

9.3.5) Top of rungs shall be 1” lower than the bottom of the frame for
drip loop.

9.3.6) For New and Existing Block Wall, a caulk with RTV Sealant shall
be applied all around both sides of the opening.

9.3.11 During Installation of Cable in the MCT

 Remove any dirt inside the frame.

 Lubricate the inside surfaces of the frame with Lubricant, especially


into the corners.

 Adapt modules which are to hold cables or pipes by peeling layers


until you reach the gap.

 Achieve a 0.1-1.0 mm gap between the two halves when held


against the cable/pipe.

 Lubricate all modules for the frame thoroughly, both the inside and
the outside surfaces.
 Insert the modules according to your installation plan (transit plan).
Usually start with the largest modules.

 Insert a stayplate on top of the finished row of modules.

 Continue to fill up the packing space of the frame, until one final row
is left.

 Before inserting the final row of modules, insert two stayplates.

 Separate the two stayplates and insert the final row of modules
between the stayplates.

 Drop the upper stayplate on top of the modules.

 Lubricate all sides of the wedge sparsely, except front and back.
Please read the markings on the wedge and turn it correctly before
inserting it in the top of the frame (standard position). Face with
“Stayplate this side” must always face a stayplate.

 Tighten the screws until full stop, approx 20 Nm (15 ft.lb.).

 Attach the Wedge Clip to the wedge bolts to check that the wedge
has been properly tightened.

9.4 Receipt and Inspection

9.4.1 When MCT and accessories are received it shall be examine, and
inspected to ensure that it is free from any physical defects or
damages and conduct visual inspection as required to establish the
condition of the materials.

9.4.2 Receipt of each package items shall be documented with details such
as received date, type of parts or accessories, quantity, and avoid
loss of parts during storage.
