l año 1968 se revela como un destello intenso en la memoria
colectiva, una cifra mágica que parece constituir una bisagra de
la Historia. Entre hedonismo y aventuras de libertad y rebeldía,
tuvo lugar un acontecimiento histórico en el mundo de la Alta
Relojería: el nacimiento del legendario Ellipse d’Or de Patek
Philippe. Redondeado sin ser redondo, cuadrangular sin ángulos vivos, esta
pieza resueltamente original representaba la fusión perfecta entre una elipse
y un rectángulo, rompiendo así con todos los diseños anteriores. La relación
entre el ancho de la caja y su largo era de 1/1,6181… el famoso número áureo,
la ‘divina proporción’ que se encuentra presente en la naturaleza, en la belleza
de los seres vivos y en las obras maestras de los grandes artistas de la Grecia
clásica. Para conmemorar el 50 aniversario de este reloj de leyenda, Patek
Philippe propone dos modelos capaces de superar cualquier expectativa: un

magical number that seems to represent a turning point in history.
Between hedonism and adventures of freedom and rebellion there
was a historical event in the world of haute horlogerie – the birth
of the legendary Golden Ellipse by Patek Philippe. Rounded without
being round, quadrangular without sharp angles, this resolutely original piece
was the perfect fusion between an ellipse and a rectangle, thus breaking with
all previous designs. The ratio between the width and length of the case was
1/1.6181, the famous golden section, the divine proportion found in nature,
in the beauty of living beings and in the masterpieces of the great artists of
ancient Greece. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of this legendary piece,
Patek Philippe is offering two models able to exceed any expectations: the
new large Golden Ellipse in rose gold with a black dial and the limited edition in
platinum with an engraved enamelled dial. Technically speaking, it houses the
mechanical self-winding movement, Calibre 240. Its ebony black sunburst dial
is adorned with gold applied hour markers and the dial plate is, not surprisingly,
coated in 18-carat gold. Gold gives way to a hand-stitched shiny black alligator
strap with square scales and prong buckle, thus resulting in the perfect
combination. Its size is striking, but with the good taste of refinement, as its

With the idea of creating something so ideal that it is conceived as non-existent
because of its magnificence, for more than 70 years, Utopia has been creating
and distributing jewellery made from precious stones, diamonds and high-
quality pearls, in particular South Sea pearls, which, because they are genuine,

Precious pearls
The creation of a pearl is a fascinating process that requires a great deal of time
and care. South Sea pearls are spheres made entirely out of nacre which are
produced within the soft body of molluscs, especially in the Pinctada Maxima
oyster living in the warm, calm, pure blue waters of the South Seas. These
stones are the most precious, because they are the most difficult to produce.
There are two prerequisites for the production of nacre: an uncontaminated
environment that is rich in plankton and an oyster of a considerable size. In
addition to a notable size, the Pinctada Maxima oyster endows these pearls
with a very thick nacre, a velvety opalescence and an indefinable range of
colours.
Tahitian pearls
The original colour of these pearls is very dark. They are formed in black-lipped
oysters known as Pinctada Mergaritifera. They are cultivated all over Polynesia.
They vary in diameter from 8 to 14 mm and come in a wide range of shades
ranging from dark grey to jet black.
Utopia thus reinterprets South Sea pearls and Tahitian pearls, the precious gift

In search of the perfect diamond
We search for the highest quality fancy-coloured diamonds and rare coloured
stones to add interest and intrigue to our unique creations. We then mix
these rare stones with hand-selected white diamonds, sapphires, rubies, and
emeralds to create artistically bold and beautiful jewellery. Each piece in the
Setare’ collection is conceptualised and made by hand in our boutique design
centre. Fashioned and crafted by our expert jewellery designers, the inception
of each jewel begins with a single sketch. After 40 to 70 sketches per piece,
final colour combinations and gem shapes are perfected and the sketch
undergoes a rigorous approval process before entering the production phase.

Francia creada en 864 por un edicto de Carlos II que
decretaba la creación de una fábrica de moneda
dependiente de la Corona y complementaria a
ocho talleres existentes en Province. Ha sido la
única fábrica que no ha interrumpido su producción
desde su creación. Está situada enfrente del Louvre
al otro lado del Sena, en el Hotel Conti, un palacio
neoclásico construido en el siglo XVIII.

A diferencia de las retrospectivas clásicas la exposición que llevó a cabo
Boucheron para su aniversario hizo énfasis en las colecciones actuales, la
tecnología digital y las experiencias interactivas e inmersivas. Prueba de ello es
el célebre gato Wladimir, la mascota de la firma, quien actuó como guía de la
exposición en un juego de realidad aumentada.
En la primera etapa de la exposición se mostró la inspiración del pasado.
La puesta en escena no pudo ser mejor: una biblioteca lacada en rojo que
guardaba libros originales, pedidos, objetos de arte… Finalizada la primera
etapa, nos adentramos en la fase de la creación en la que el joyero desvela
los secretos de la fabricación y de la concepción de una joya. Los oficios
del gremio tuvieron sus respectivos tributos al verse reflejados en un vídeo
explicativo. Además, dos colecciones emblemáticas de la marca fueron
expuestas: Réflet y Quatre; también, tuvo lugar una colección de carteles de
publicidad vintage expuestos en una mini-plaza de la Vendôme.
Unlike classic retrospectives, the exhibition organised by Boucheron for its
anniversary focused on current collections, digital technology, and interactive
and immersive experiences. Proof of this is the famous cat Wladimir, the
company’s mascot, who acted as a guide for the exhibition in a game of
augmented reality.
The first part of the exhibition showed the inspiration of the past. The staging
could not have been better: a red lacquered library containing original books,
orders, works of art... In the second part, visitors delved into the creative
process in which the jeweller revealed the secrets of manufacturing and
designing a piece of jewellery. The main tradespeople involved in jewellery
making were also the centre of respective tributes in an explanatory video.
Moreover, there were also two emblematic collections on display, Réflet and
Quatre, as well as a collection of vintage advertising posters in a miniature
Place Vendôme.

Fred Samuel has been making his mark in the world of jewellery
since the mid-1930s thanks to the use of precious pearls,
particularly pearls cultivated in Japan. In the 1950s, Fred Samuel
served a magnificent and exotic order when the royal family of
Nepal asked him for pieces to match the saris of the court. A new world opened
up for Fred Samuel, who developed a true passion for precious stones with
colours reminding him of his childhood in Argentina. Throughout his career,
Fred Samuel found endless sources of inspiration among the artists who visited
the vibrant between-war Paris. It was he who in 1962 created the Jean Cocteau
medal in yellow gold on the basis of an original drawing.
The history of marine cables or how the Force 10 bracelet came into
being
The first Force 10 bracelet by Fred was created in 1966 by Fred Samuel, the
founder of the brand. Fred was passionate about sailing and named the
bracelet Force 10 in reference to the strong wind of the same name. Crafted
in braided steel thread, Fred’s Force 10 collection draws its inspiration from

traditional and modern, based on movement, a sensual flow that seeks
to provide ergonomic comfort. Messika has revolutionised the world of
fine jewellery by focusing on everyday pieces, thus tearing down the
entrenched dynamics of robust and heavy creations that were only
brought out on specific occasions.
Behind Messika’s success is a special savoir-faire that emanates from Valérie’s
passion for jewellery. This passion requires around hundred sketches before
approving the final design of a specific model. A keen eye and a steady hand are
then needed to create the gouache, which gives a specific vision of the final creation
and establishes the link between the designer, in this case Valérie Messika, and the
jeweller. Dialogue, investigation and reflection are the key steps in the work coming
out of Atelier Messika, where the creative idea becomes reality. The jeweller must
meticulously assemble the different pieces in order to give form to the various
components of the structure. The drawing comes to life; the curves take form
and the harmonious architecture is revealed. This harmony is expressed through
flexibility, as the jeweller carefully finishes assembling the final structure, bringing it
to life, evidencing the exceptional expertise overflowing at the Maison’s workshop.
Next, the piece is delicately polished in several stages, both before and after setting,
to finally complete the piece through a process which involves sculpting, cutting and
finishing that the setter artfully performs to enhance the beauty of the piece
of fine jewellery. This is the only way to explain why the jewellery of Valérie Messika
encourages women to become who they are: brilliant, free, sensual
and self-confident.

pasión: viajar. ¿Podemos decir que de aquí nace Shamballa?
SHAMBALLA JEWELS nace de una combinación de inspiración y curiosidad,
entre otros, del Lejano Oriente. Ambos hemos practicado yoga durante muchos
años, y fue así como comenzó; la curiosidad de cómo la gente ha usado
“accesorios” durante años, como rosarios, campanas, cantos y meditación para

You two have shared - and share - the same passion: traveling. Can
we say that Shamballa is born from here?
SHAMBALLA JEWELS is born from a combination of inspiration and curiosity –
among others, from the Far East. We have both practiced yoga for many years,
and this was kind of where it started; the curiosity of how people has used
“accessories” for ages, such as prayer beads, bells, chanting and meditation
to explore their inner self, which is something that we could be better to
remember today. To stop up, breath and find balance. And that exact aspect
is what we hope to remind people of through our jewellery through symbols,
icons and stories from the Eastern philosophy.

How to take this concept to the West?
It has always been very natural for us to combine the Eastern philosophy with
Nordic design traditions. While we are captured and fascinated by the colours
and aesthetics of the East, we find it important to town it down with a touch
of Nordic minimalism and functionality. We want our jewellery to be much
more than the materials that make them; we want them to carry stories and
memories that our collectors can wear every day. Also, it is crucial for us to
ensure impeccable quality and excellence in craftmanship, which also comes
from inspiration, as well as respect for our “design ancestors”

valores personales dentro de ella, a través de historias personalizadas en sus
diseños personales de joyería. Estos cuatro valores -amor, alegría, compasión y
sabiduría- son de gran importancia en la filosofía oriental, y cuatro valores que
alabamos dentro de nuestra compañía también, y que son un testimonio de
esta visión.
¿Qué expectativas prevén para el futuro?
Simplemente somos pasajeros en el viaje de SHAMBALLA JEWELS, y esperamos
ver qué nos traerá el futuro. Abrimos nuestra primera tienda insignia en

small jewelry store ... What a smashing style, is not it?
For us, it is a beautiful sequence of coincidences that have shaped SHAMBALLA
JEWELS to what it is today. The fascination of yoga and meditation, as well as
the Far East, that led us to follow our dream of creating a fine jewellery brand,
not only catering for the women, but the men as well. When we founded
SHAMBALLA JEWELS, our vision was to get more modern men to wear fine
jewellery in the same way that we did it ourselves. We wanted to show that it
doesn’t necessarily have to be feminine, neither locked up in a safe for special
events – over the years it came to include men and women alike.
In addition, aesthetically, your jewelry “drinks” from the Nordic
culture.
You have created a brand that is 100% author, of great personality.
Love, compassion, wisdom and joy. They are the 4 pillars of Shamballa,
more than jewelry, are we talking about a philosophy of life?
We hope that our jewellery will remind and inspire people to remember to stop
up and remember what is important in life - as well as one’s personal values
within it – through stories customized into their personal jewellery designs.
These four values – love, joy, compassion and wisdom – are of great importance
in the Eastern philosophy, and four values we praise within our company as
well, and they stand as a testimony towards this vision.
What expectations do you foresee for the future?
We are merely passangers on the SHAMBALLA JEWELS journey, and we look
forward to seeing what the future will bring us. We opened our very first
flagship store on foreign soil back in October 2017, which kickstarted a new
adventure in the SHAMBALLA JEWELS’ story, and we are already looking at
other metropolitan cities.

Tellurium-Orrey, where the flying bridge plays the part of the Sun with the bridge
evoking the shine of the rays. The hemispheric globe rotates on its own axis and
indicates hours in a natural 24-hour cycle. Moreover, a spherical moon moves
around the Earth in 29.53 days, which is the exact duration of its synodic period.
The size chosen for this astronomical spectacle is 46.30 mm in diameter by a

of new watches that show the force of their savoir faire in the
world of fine watchmaking. The new BOY·FRIEND Skeleton,
which is also equipped with the new Calibre 3, is a good example

Part of Chanel’s most recent collection, the BOY·FRIEND, which was presented
in 2015, the new BOY·FRIEND Skeleton was the most talked about piece
unveiled by Chanel at Baselworld 2018. This model was chosen to house
Chanel’s new manufacture movement, Calibre 3, the third calibre developed
in-house in only three years. With three different calibres in three years, the
Parisian brand is sending a friendly warning to competitors: now that we’ve
got started, nothing is going to stop us now. As with Calibre 1 and Calibre 2,
Chanel’s Calibre 3 continues to have a similar design that includes circular
bridges, while also adopting a baguette-type style with a nearly linear structure
