This edition is based on the printed edition published in 902 by
Gustav Lindströms Förlag, Stockholm. It contains a number of likely mis-spellings, such as mixups between ‘ö’ and ‘ø’. These and other likely misprints have been retained.
All problems have been checked for serious errors. Matthieu
Leschemelle’s computer program Problemiste was used for the bulk of the problems, Popeye was used for problem 320, and Fritz 6 with the Nalimov endgame databases for the studies. Discovered errors have been indicated in the diagram with [†] (no solution), [§] (short solu-tion), [*] (several solutions), and [!] or [?] (others) and further details given in the solutions.
Two probable misprint has been corrected, based on solutions: dia-
gram 5 originally had wKd8 & wQf8, and to diagram 90 has been added wQe7.
Some known sources have been added in brackets.
Problem nr. 07, by W. Jensen is also given as nr. 4 2 in White: Sam
Loyd and his Chess Problems ( 962), but without source details. Is this anticipation, or was Loyd using Jensen’s problem as basis for his notes on the Indian problem?
Endgame study by N. C. C. Lose was also published by V. Vandet
(British Chess Magazine, 900). It is not known where Lose first publis- hed his study, so it remains unclear who anticipated whom. 2005-06- 5: Espen Backe found two further misprints in the original: in diagram 20, wQc was missing (corrected), and in diagram 80 bPe3 Thank you for evaluating BCL easyConverter Desktop This Word document was converted from PDF with an evaluation version of BCL easyConverter Desktop software that only converts the first 3 pages of your PDF.
