Highlights

1. Using the general conservation laws for modelling flow through a porous medium is
numerically intensive.
2. Governing laws for flow through porous media can be derived by averaging the standard
balance equations over volumes containing several pores.
3. A volume averaged energy balance equation is derived from the standard energy balance
equation using the averaging approach with the local equilibrium model neglecting viscous
dissipation.
4. An additional equation required for determining the degree of cure is also derived.
5. The derived energy balance equation is implemented in a custom OpenFOAM solver and a
basic simulation is performed as a test for dimensional correctness of the equation and a
very preliminary validation.
