Write and record in English what you would say in the following situations. Use the words
would, can, could, will and may explained in the material Topic 1 - Could you help me,
please? in the section Language structure
Note: it is possible to answer in different ways. Situations:

a. You are on the bus and it’s very hot. You ask someone to open the window.
What do you say?

b. You want to return a book to the library of your university, but you don’t feel
well. You ask a friend to do it for you. What do you say?

c. You call a friend and his mother answers the phone .You ask to speak to
your friend. What do you say?

d. You´re shopping with a friend, but when you are going to pay you don’t have
any money with you. You ask your friend to lend you some .What do you
say?

SOLUTION:

a. You are on the bus and it’s very hot. You ask someone to open the
window. What do you say?

Excuse me, could you open the window, please?

Other form: Excuse me, Would you mind opening the window?

b. You want to return a book to the library of your university, but you don’t feel
well. You ask a friend to do it for you. What do you say?

Please, can you carrie this book to my university’s library?

Other form: Would you return this book for me, please?
c. You call a friend and his mother answers the phone .You ask to speak to
your friend. What do you say?

Hello Mrs. (name) Can I speak with your son, please?.

d. You´re shopping with a friend, but when you are going to pay you don’t have
any money with you. You ask your friend to lend you some .What do you
say?

Could you lend me some money, please? I´ll pay it you later.
