Tom Robinson's trial is a critical point in the novel.

Multiple characters give


testimony and their answers do not necessarily align. It is important to understand the
significance of their responses; this exercise will help you take note of each
character's responses, and their importance to the trial.

With a partner, review Tom Robinson's trial that takes place between chapters 17-22.

For each character:

1) Describe the witness in the space provided.

2) Find and select multiple quotes that provide evidence for, or against, the innocence
of the defendant, Tom Robinson. Copy this down in the designated space(s).

* Your quotes must be properly cited in MLA format

3) Discuss the significance of your chosen quotes with your partner; what do they
mean or imply? How does their testimony affect the overall outcome of the trial?

4) Record your answer(s) to step 2 in the space(s) provided.

* Your responses should be written in complete sentences

5) Describe your reaction to the characters' testimonies in the space provided.
