Lachlan Macquarie

Ava Marie Conol

Good morning 3G, today I’m going to talk about Governor Lachlan Macquarie. 
He was born on the 31 January 1762 in Scotland to Lachlan and Margaret Macquarie. 
He was married to Jane Jarvis who died, and later he married Elizabeth Campbell. He, along
with his wife were free settlers who sailed in the Dromedary. 
They arrived in Port Jackson on the 28th December 1809 and was sworn in as governor of New
South Wales on New Year’s Day 1810, settling in Sydney. 
As Governor, his main problem was how to encourage the farmers to develop their land even
though it was very hard to because of famine. He had this problem all throughout his term as
Governor. 
