Old Burton is the main character which is characterized indirectly by his actions and

words .He was a rich man who had no sense of humor as he considered this story funny
.He was cruel person as he laughed at his namesake deplorable situation ,hard-hearted
as he sent young Burton to sure death .Insensitive as he didn`t regret about the young
Burton`s death ,he was selfish as he thought just about benefits ,double faced and

described him at the beginning of the story he was a smart looking ,curly , pink and

.He was a lazy person as at the age of 35 never worked .He was a pessimistic person as
he said that if he didn`t get a job he would commit a suicide .He was a naïve person as
he accepted this dangerous propose after a long hesitation .He is characterized
indirectly by his words, actions, and behavior .He was lazy and weak but at the same
time , he was polite , open , sociable .
