How language has been used in a persuasive manner (consider syntax, diction, figures. of speech and other relevant stylistic effects) ¢ TAKING YOUR + ARVS People who are living with HIV/AIDS may feel healthier after starting treatment, and stop their medication but it is vital not to make this mistake. There was a time when someone diagnosed with HIV/ AIDS received a virtual death sentence, as there were no known treatments for the disease However, in the late 1990s, a combination of drugs was discovered that kept the virus in check These were called antiretroviral (ARV) drugs ‘Since 2004, when South Africa rolled out its ARV programme to people Irving with HIV, they have given affected people a new lease on hfe IT’S A TREATMENT, NOT A CURE ARVs do not cure HIV/AIDS There 1s still no outright cure, and the disease does not go away by Itself But ARVs do slow down the immune system, and allow people to live long, productive lives like everyone else With one in every 10 people in South Africa living with HIV/ AIDS, these drugs are tremendously valuable in giving an excellent quality of Ife (Adapted from Movel, 13 Apnl 2016) (60) oR (TURN OVER]
