As I go about my day, whether it be in a professional, social, or personal setting, I do so with

kindness. I attempt to live my life in a way that does not harm anyone or anything, creating as
small as a carbon footprint as possible. I try to live with a mindset that adheres to, simply put,
minding my own business. If someone is acting in a way that does not harm anyone else, then
their behavior is not my concern. We all have different beliefs, personalities, hopes, and
situations. At the end of the day, I hope that wherever I have gone, I have made a positive
impact. I feel the quickest way to do this is to be kind, authentic, and helpful. With all of that
being said, if I encounter negative behavior toward others, I believe in the responsibility to speak
out. As human beings, it is our responsibility to ensure both equality and equity. Coincidentally, I
am positioned in a career that aligns with these beliefs. Librarianship demands access, which
assures information will be readily available to each individual. Librarianship also celebrates
diversity, valuing our differences and providing resources to the community so that culture is not
just tolerated, but explored and understood. Overall, this field is about the public good, which
encompases making a positive impact. Public libraries do not attempt to sell you any product,
they do not act in ways which could be manipulative, and they do not deliver false information.
Finally, while these efforts are conducted to improve human life, they work in tandem to protect
the environment. A public library uses all that they can, again and again, in order to share
existing resources. This puts an emphasis on recycling, and the programming that libraries
produce often focus on this as well. Through these shared values, I feel both blessed and
energetic to be part of the field.
