KUALA LUMPUR: The government is committed to

maintaining Fardu Ain and Kifayah (Kafa) classes to
strengthen Islamic education for children.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Fuziah

Salleh said the government would maintain the monthly
allowance of RM900 and Employees Provident Fund (EPF)
contribution of RM117 for Kafa teachers.

“As of now, 5,609 premises and 31,460 teachers, as well as

973,055 students, follow the KAFA programme nationwide,”
she said.

Fuziah was answering a question from Datuk Tuan Ibrahim

Tuan Man (Pas- Kubang Kerian) on the status of Kafa
teachers and students who receive aid from the Malaysian
Islamic Development Department (Jakim) during the
question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today.

In response to a supplementary question from Tuan Ibrahim,

Fuziah said Jakim was looking into improving Kafa teachers’
status so that they could be absorbed as permanent staff.

She said teachers with contract status would be trained to

upgrade their capabilities.

In reply to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri

Mustapa Mohamed (BN-Jeli) on the termination of more than
7,000 community religious teachers in Kelantan, Fuziah said
it was due to the issue of political appointments.

“I was informed that the government has no plans to take

1
them in as Quran teachers, even though we do not deny the
importance of their role,” she said.

“We acknowledged their role, however we will look again into

the matter for future appointments.”
