Cinquain Poetry

WALT:​ use the features of different poem forms

Day 1
1. Introduce Cinquain Poetry. Break down each line and parts of speech required for
cinquain poetry. Focus on synonyms.
2. Read example poems. Have students think of other words and/or phrases to create
another poem using the same noun as one of the examples.
3. Students will write drafts and publish poems. Focus on Halloween/Fall.

Day 2
1. Review Cinquain Poetry. Focus on Adjectives.
2. Bring up I Spy picture. Play I Spy for a few minutes. Pick one item and write a poem
about it.
3. Tell students to finish and publish poems from yesterday. Then, have students pick an
object from the I Spy picture. This will be what they write their poem about.
4. Students will write drafts and publish.

Day 3
1. Review Cinquain Poetry. Focus on -ing verbs. Brainstorm topic ideas.
2. Write an example of cinquain poems.
3. Have students write drafts and publish poems.

Day 4
1. Guy Fawkes Poetry- Read aloud.
2. Discuss phrases for second to last line in poem.
3. Students write Cinquain poem about Guy Fawkes and fireworks.
4. Do crayon/paint activity to publish poems.
