Bismillahi rahmaani Raheem. Prayers be to Allah.

Peace and blessings be upon our beloved prophet

Mohamed Sal Allah Alahi wasalam.

Respected judges, beloved teachers and my dear friends. Asalaam alaikum and a very good morning to
you all.

Today, I would like to share my thoughts on the topic “Are school field trips necessary”.

One of the founding fathers of the United States once said “Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I
remember. Involve me and I learn.” This is very true for most of us, isn’t it? Even though we learn a lot
in our normal sessions at school, learning through experience help us to understand better. And school
field trips do just that. It helps us to be engaged and involved in what we learn.

You see, when we go on a field trip to, let’s say a museum, we are able to see different artifacts and
pieces of history among other things. Things that we would otherwise have to read about from our text
books. Our interest increases when we get to see and experience them.

In addition to this, field trips also help us to improve our observation skills and expands our awareness
of our own community. Let’s say we go and observe the traffic with our teachers as part of our social
studies class, we learn how different traffic laws work. We go to local farms as a science field trip and
we get to see how the food we eat are produced.

Similarly, when we go to the beach, we can better understand and experience, tidal waves, reef, sea
organisms and sadly, even erosion at work. Combine all these and more field trips together and we’ll
get a better understanding of how our community functions. And how our society and environment
works.

However, we also need to keep in mind that these field trips need to be informative, engaging, and
organized in a way that we get the most out of them. We should also get the expertise of those working
on the respective fields. Only then, can we get the most out of these trips.

In my opinion these informative and engaging trips teach us that books can’t. It helps us by getting
involved in the process and have the same experience of those who are involved in the field. So before
concluding, I would say that effective, informative and engaging field trips are necessary for a better
learning process.

Thank you everyone, let’s get on the field!
