Preface ‘This manual provides basic service information for GENICOM printer Models 3810S, 3810SP, 3840E, 3840EP, 3940E, 39401, 39401P, 3914, and 3944. Models 3840E, 3840EP, 3940E, 39401, 39401P, and 3944 have multiple Paper paths, while Models 3810S, 3810SP, and 3414 have bottom feed only. Models 3810S, 3810SP, 3840E, and 3B40EP have standard RS-232 serial and CENTRONICS® parallel interfaces. These models are used in ‘many standard computer applications. Models 3940€, 39401, and 39401P have a standard CENTRONICS® par- allel interface and a rear-mounted inteligant controller making them sut- able for 1BM® coax and twinax applications. Models 3914 and 3944 have internal intaligant controllers making them ‘suitable for CENTRONICS® parallel and for IBM® coax and twinax ap- Plications. ‘This manual is divided into five chapters as follows: ‘Chapter 1, “Introduction,” provides a basic description of the printer. Chapter 2, “Functional Analysis,” provides a general description of the electronic circuits and includes a functional block diagram of the printer. ‘Chapter 3, “Troubleshooting,” includes functional troubleshooting using the selt-test features built into the printer and a troubleshooting guide. ‘An interconnecting diagram Is also provided. Chapter 4, “Removing and Installing Pars,” gives step-by-step instruc- tions for replacing parts. Chapter 5, "Iltustrated Parts List,” is a list of the printer's parts and their art numbers along with illustrations. References in this manual to front, rear, lett, and right assume the view- ng position to be in front of the printer and facing the control panel. For convenience, the name “printer” is frequently used when the informa- tion is common to all of the models covered by this manual.
