Playing with Fareeha

9 February 2018. Written by T Liz

Assamalaikam Asma. Today I saw you helping Fareeha on a scooter with Salma. I saw you hold the
handle while Fareeha climbed onto the board. When Fareeha started to push herself, you walked
behind her. You reminded her “No Fareeha! You need two feet on there” as you pointed to the board.
Fareeha listened and put both feet back on the board. You walked behind her until Fareeha got off
the scooter. You followed her to the slide and up the steps and stood watching while she slid down. You
laughed when Fareeha looked up at you from the bottom of the slide and grinned. You stood waiting at
the top of the slide until Fareeha climbed up the ladder and slid down again. You laughed together as
you copied what she did.

Asma’s learning goal this term is to improve her self-help skills as she prepares for school next term.
Today she is showing us how she is becoming more aware of caring for others around her as she takes
responsibility for children in a group she is playing with. Asma has sense of personal worth and knows
her ideas are valued. She is confident to join in small group or big group activities.

Tino pai to mahi (Great work) Asma! /

We will continue to support Asma as she learns more ways of caring for herself and others in her
group by asking questions about her activities to develop her thinking skills about her play.
