‘SABIC MAIN BUILDING - JUBAIL, KSA Henning Larsen Architects FL Mea 1 surement of Pile Movement ‘Compression test piles are to be instrumented by dial gauges and displacement transducers at the pile head and remote survey techniques. All test piles are also to be instrumented with strain gauges as described in clause below: Instrumentation: Each preliminary test pile is to be provided with ‘© Three dial gauges at the pile head and Optical survey of the pile head * Ten sets of 4 strain gauges. Strain gauges shall be Rebar Strainmeters, Model 4911 by Geokon, Inc. or approved equal Two telltale measurement rods extending from the bottom of the pile and the top segment of the pile rising to grade. The Contractor shall use a suitably integrated monitoring system to the satisfaction of the Engineer for the reading of the load cells and displacement transducers. The load at a given load increments is to be governed by the readings from the load calls and not the equivalent pressure as read from the pressure gauge attached to the pump. Strain gauges should be accurate to within a tolerance of 1 u strain. ‘The datum referred to in MSL shall be so located that itis not affected by either the test loading or the other site operations, G. Reference Beams — Where reference beams are used they shall: Be simply supported, and 1 2 Either be supported from pints at a distance not less than 4.5mm from the test pile or any part of the reaction system; or Be checked for movement by leveling at appropriate times during the test. H. Test Procedures 1 ‘Supervision: The installation of the entire testing system, testing and monitoring, are to be carried out in the full-time supervision of the Contractor's engineer experienced in pile installation and testing. Delay between installation and Testing: Loading testing of piles shall not commence until the strengths of materials are adequate to sustain the maximum required test load specified in Clause A.5.2.7. Load application: upon loading of each test pile to the maximum test load shall be removed smoothly and the residual settlement recorded. Recording during loading states: the load, sottlement and time shall be recorded immediately upon reaching the load increment and at 10 minute intervals for the period specified above. Should it not be possible to achieve the load increment, readings should be taken as directed by the Engineer. ‘A report on the pile load test shall be prepared and shall include piling records as described in Part tof this Specification |. Test Layout Equipment: This section of the report shall include the following 1 3, J. Reps 1 2. BORED PILE ‘Sketches and photographs showing: the location and size of reaction and loading equipment; deflection measuring equipment; strain gauges; test pile and cap; and position of reference level marks. ‘An assessment of the accuracy of the deflection measurement with particular reference to the movement of the supports of reference beams due to variations in loading or temperature ‘The results of calibrations of the load measuring apparatus. orting Test Procedure and results: This section of the report shall include the following for axial load test A tabulation of the readings during loading and unloading of the pile, together with relevant times. It shall be clearly indicated whether the results are uncorrected readings. ‘oF reading after corrections for calibration. Movement of datum points and other influences. A graphic representation to the test results in the form of either a load settlement curve cr time settement curve if sustained loading increments are made. FOUNDATION 31 6329-21 ‘SABIC MAIN BUILDING - JUBAIL, KSA Henning Larsen Architects E. Load Measurement: 1, Measure pile head movement with one dial gauge capable of reading to the nearest 0.025mm. Dial gauges shall be a travel of atleast 50mm. Dial gauges shall be mounted ‘on an independent steel test frame to prevent relative movement during the load test 2. Establish a separate mirror, wire, scale set-up, with scale capable of measuring to the nearest 0.5mm. 3, Provide independent survey level measurements of the pile using optical level survey ‘equipment capable of reading to the nearest 1.5mm, 3.14 DOWNGRADED PILES ‘A. Any piles damaged in any way, or not installed within the specified position or vertically tolerance, or elements that failed to attain the maximum specified loading during load tests shall be classified as down-graded piles. B. Down-graded piles shall be evaluated, and if necessary rejected, at the discretion of the Engineer and replaced or supplemented with substitute piles by the Contractor at his own expense. At the sole discretion of the Engineer, the pile caps and any required compensating pile shall be constructed to a modified design proposed by the Contractor to account or the variation in pile position or alignment, The cost and time of replacement, including all direct and consequential costs in modifications required, shall be borne by the Contractor, 3.15 PERMANENT PILE INSTRUMENTATION ‘A. Install permanent strain gauge instrumentation in 41 working piles. B. Each 40m long pile shall have four levels of instrumentation, located at Sm, 15m, 25m, and 35m, ©. Each 30m long pile shall have four levels of instrumentation, located at Sm, 10m, 20m, and 25m. D. Each level shall have four Rebar Strain-meters — Model 4911 by Geokon, Inc or approved equal E. Install Geokon Madel 4855 Pile Tip Load Call in each one of the sixteen piles. ‘The load coll shall be fabricated specifically forthe diameter of the reinforcing cage. F. Provide at least 10m of wiring above the top of the pile for each strain gauge. Protect wiring al the tip ofthe pile in a sold plastic enclosure. 3.46 DISPOSAL ‘A. Upon the completion of the Works the Contractor shall clear away and remove from the Site all constructional plant, equipment, surplus materials, rubbish, etc. and leave the whole of the Site and Works clean and in good condition to the satisfaction of the Engineer.
