The series begins with the arrival of Penny, an aspiring actress, to the neighboring apartment, shared by

Sheldon and Leonard, two physicists working at the California Institute of Technology. Leonard falls in
love from Penny's first moment.

Leonard and Sheldon are prominent scientists at Caltech, friends of Howard and Raj, who are portrayed
as complete geeks, far removed from the concerns and problems of ordinary people. In the course of
the series it shows the difficulty of the male protagonists to relate to people from outside their
environment, mainly of female sex, giving rise to comical situations.
