Understanding Statements:

Through this experience, learners will understand how music can be represented by movement.
Learners will also understand how music is organized, through phrases and repetitions.

“I Can” Statements:

- I can move my body to a steady beat while listening to music.

- I can use my movements to determine where underlying phrases exist in music.
- I can use my movements to determine where micro and macro beats exist in music.

Materials:

- “High Hopes” by Panic! At the Disco, from the album Pray for the Wicked (2018)
- I chose this piece of music because it utilizes quick beat patterns as well as slow and is
a good example to listen to for micro and macro beats.

Assessment:
Informal assessment via questioning and watching movements of the students.
- Watch learners to see that they are understanding movements and patterns
- Revert to less complex patterns if learners seem to be struggling.
- Ask learners what patterns they noticed within the movements and the song.
- Repeat patterns and movements with students if they are struggling.

Extension:
- Change movements for the last two choruses to show the build up to the ending
- Add in quicker movements to show smaller beats or slower movements to show
macrobeats
