Bullard Elementary Reflection

I went to Bullard Elementary Fall Festival / STEM Night on September 7th to help run a

STEM booth with Josh, a volunteer from North Cobb. The station I attended was, “Can you step

through an index card?”, this station was to let the students think abstractly about how to cut a

note card large enough to fit your body through it. Most students succeeded with their parents

help, as they were ages 5-7. I learned to simplify rules and communicate with children on their

level while working with adults, and overall, I enjoyed this event. The children were very polite

and listened well. The parents often rushed their child, which caused their project to fail. But I

gave them mine instead and showed them how to properly build it. This project involved

mathematics as well as engineering, the cuts in the note card had to be exactly 1cm and you had

to fold the card numerous times to get the slits to line up. This experience allowed me to interact

with young children and show them the elements of STEM, I truly appreciated this opportunity.
