Dear _________________:

Greetings from Tanghalang Pilipino, the resident theater company of the Cultural Center of the
Philippines!

Tanghalang Pilipino is on its 21st season this year and the theme we have adopted for our season is
“Tagisan ng Lakas: Power Plays”. Our stage productions this year tackle the various arenas of power-play
--- among social classes, political spectrums, gender differences, economic levels and, more importantly,
right from wrong, good versus evil.

It is in this context that we have included in our season repertoire an original production entitled “EJ: Ang
Pinagdaanang Buhay nina Evelio Javier at Edgar Jopson” that headlines two exemplary modern-day
heroes, Evelio Javier and Edgar Jopson. Significantly, the play includes an original composition entitled
“Ang Mabuhay para sa Kapwa” (A Man for Others), a life-value both men lived by and died for.

We have commissioned Edgar “Ed” Maranan to write the script. Ed is a multi-awarded poet and multiple
award-winning playwright. This production is also privileged to have the support of Precious Lotilla Javier
and Joy Jopson Kintanar, widows of Evelio and Edjop, respectively. It is through their active participation and
documentary assistance that the script renders deeper insights into the backgrounds of the two protagonists.

But over and beyond historical information on the two men, the play dissects the intentions, motivations and
eventual choices made in the course of their lives and the consequences of those choices on themselves,
their families and the Filipino people as a whole. In addition to factual data, both from published sources as
well as private information drawn from their widows about them, the play also poses hypothetical situations
to the two men in an artistic attempt to evaluate the wisdom or folly of their respective chosen method in
achieving their objectives….a power play within the conscience on the means versus the end.

While the play notes the divergent approaches taken by Evelio and Edjop to effect positive change, the play
makes no judgment on which path chosen by either men is better or more effective. That judgment is left for
the audience to make for themselves. What the play does express unequivocally is their common integrity of
mind and heart and their sincerity of purpose for public welfare, to the point of sacrificing their own lives to
defend and uphold their beliefs.

This production, being the last in a series of five (5) plays, ends our 21st theater season. “EJ: Ang
Pinagdaanang Buhay nina Eveli Javier at Edgar Jopson” is scheduled to open on February 15, 2008. It
will run for four (4) weekends: February 15-17,22-24, February 29-March 2 and March 7-9, 2008.

Our decision to produce “EJ” at such time is deliberate and purposeful. Our youth as well as the Filipino
public in general are seeking personalities whose values they can emulate and pursue as ideals to guide
their daily lives. The play also serves as a fitting reminder of how the lives of Evelio and Edjop presented
moral questions and political dilemmas to the Marcos dictatorship and how their brutal murder/martyrdom
sparked public outrage towards Marcos that culminated in EDSA People Power. Thus the play’s schedule
coinciding with the EDSA anniversary month next year is not accidental. In particular, the play dates
commemorate Evelio’s 22nd death anniversary on February 11, 2008.

We would like to invite you to the Press Launch for EJ on Thursday, the 31 st of January, 2008 at 12:00
noon. The said event will be held at the Aguado and San Rafael Room, 2 nd Floor Milky Way Building,
900 A. Arnaiz Avenue (Pasay Road), Makati City.

We are hoping that you will grace this event with your presence and continue to support an artistic endeavor
aimed at inculcating the values of decency, moral uprightness and self-sacrifice among the youth of today
and the Filipino public at large.
