TENNIS

HISTORY

The game of tennis goes back to the 13th century (13), although it was
practiced in several european countries and american countries, was more
characteristic of france where it was known as "jeu de paume", which literally
means play with the palm of the hand.
The initial game was played indoors and consisted simply of pushing a ball over
a net hanging from the side walls of the enclosure.
When the player hit the ball, he shouted "tenez" from the french verb "tenir"
which means hold or hold. From there originated the name of the game that
derived to the form "tennis". Much later, in the sixteenth century, the english
king henry viii had a palace built for the "tenez" in the palace.
The modern form of tennis, as far as rackets and courts, was actually started in
1873, when an english army major, named walter clopton wingfield, designed
and manufactured a kit consisting of two posts, a net, four rackets and several
balls of rubber, in addition to the instructions on how to play the one that was
beginning to be called lawn tennis, for playing on surfaces of grass.
The original tennis was played on natural grass tracks.
Since 1926, with the creation of the first tour, it is a professional sport. It is also
an olympic sport since the olympic games in athens in 1896.
