Colombia in 2016 had a generation capacity of 16,594 MW while the maximum demand
was 9,904 MW

The trade union leader indicated that Colombia has a clean electric power
generation matrix with an
installed capacity of 16,514 MW, which allows the electric sector to occupy the
first place in reliability
in Latin America and the tenth position in the world in terms of of environmental
sustainability. Of this capacity,
65.95% corresponds to hydraulic energy, 28.85% to thermal and 5.2% to generation
from Minor Plants and Cogeneration
projects.
