Scenario 1:

A patient that is sitting in their room is getting examined when the doctor and the medical assistant are
gossiping about a patient in the room next door. The Medical Assistant approaches the Doctor with how
the patient in the next room is a young mother who has been cheated on and exposed to HIV. The
Medical Assistant asks the Doctor if her children should be tested. The patient that the Doctor is taking
vital signs from is concerned with contamination and asks the Doctor if they have washed their hands
and sanitized. When the patient is done with her appointment she goes straight to the office manager to
file a complaint on the two that assessed her today. The office manager approached the MA and the DR
and takes matter into her own hands. Both the MA and the DR have been suspended for violating
HIPAA.

Scenario 2

In scenario 2 my classmates chose to roleplay a patient having a seizure from an unknown drug
overdose. The nurse in the room was videoing the seizure and then posted it on Snapchat and the link
was found on Instagram. The patient received the link from a from and called an attorney about it. The
hospital and the nurse were sued, and the nurse was terminated. Her file will permanently reflect that
she lost her license and that she violated HIPAA rules.
