GeoGebra

GeoGebra is freeware, written in Java, and easily downloadable software from

the internet for the purpose of the study of geometry, algebra, calculus at different

level. GeoGebra was created by Markus Hohenwarter in 2001/2002 as part of his

master's thesis in mathematics education and computer science at the University of

Salzburg in Austria. Supported by a DOC scholarship from the Austrian Academy of

Sciences he was able to continue the development of the software as part of his PhD

project in mathematics education. During that time, GeoGebra won several

international awards, including the European and German educational software

awards, and was translated by math instructors and teachers all over the world to more

than 25 languages.

It comprises dynamic geometry and algebraic manipulation packages

connecting a drawing window with an algebra window. It is useful in order to

generate dynamic graphics and their visualization, test questions and mathematical

games as well as math related problems with virtually manipulative outlook in

algebraic and geometric view (Bist, 2017). In addition, use of GeoGebra in geometry

classes fosters the new discoveries, and construction. Thus, possibilities with working

GeoGebra are bottomless making the bridge between algebraic and geometric

concepts (Bist, 2017).

An effective use of GeoGebra in classroom fosters dynamic geometry

environment which is paradigm shifts in teaching (Andraphanova, 2015). One can use

it for active and participatory learning and penetrating problem based learning in

geometry. Furthermore, Moreno-Armella, Hegedus, & Kaput (2008) stressed that

math teachers can use GeoGebra software in their instructional activities to explain, to
explore, and to model mathematical concepts and the connections between these

concepts. For example:
