4. You own 6 books: 3 novels, 2 mathemat ics books and 1 chemistry book.
You want to put them on a bookshelf. In how many ways can these books
be arranged (ordered) on the bookshelf if
a. the books can be arranged in any order?
b. the mat hemat ics books must be together and the novels must be
together?
c. the novels must be together, but the other books can be arranged in
any order?
5. A person has 8 friends and will take 5 of them to a football game. How
many choices does he have if:
a. Two of his friends are fight ing and will not go to the game together.
b. Two of his friends are best friends and will only go together.
6. A, B and C will take turns flipping a coin. First A flips then coin, then B,
then C, then A again, B again and C again. The coin is flipped 6 times.
Whoever gets heads first wins, and the game is over. If there is no heads in
6 flips (if all 6 flips land tails), then the game is over and nobody wins.
What is the probabilit y that A wins?

what is the probabilit y that A and B are next to each other?

8. On rainy days, Joe is late to work with probabilit y 0.3, on nonrainy days
he is late wit h probabilit y 0.1. Wit h probabilit y 0.7 it will rain tomorrow.
a. Find the probabilit y that Joe is early tomorrow.
b. Given that Joe was early today, what is the probabilit y t hat it rained
today?
