-The comparison of superiority is formed by making certain changes in adjectives, based on the number of

syllables they have. To compare we always need a second term, that is, the comparison is always between two
or more things is always between two or more things.

The adjectives "short" of a syllable (monosyllables) form their comparison of superiority by adding -er:
Slow -- slower

tall -- taller
If the adjective monosyllabic ends in consonant + vowel + consonant, it doubles the last consonant:
big -- bigger

hot – hotter

If the adjective of two syllables does not end in -y, it is considered to be "long" and forms its comparative
