Mental disorders according to APA (American Psychiatric Association) are syndromes or

psychological patterns or patterns of behavior that are clinically important, which occur in
individuals and the syndrome is associated with the presence of distress or disability (disability in
one part or several important functions) or accompanied by increased risk meaningfully to die,
sickness, disability or loss of freedom.
Mental disorders that are one of the main problems in developing countries is schizophrenia.
Schizophrenia is a clinical syndrome of various psychopathological conditions that are very
disturbing, involving the process of thought, emotion, perception and behavior.
In this study researchers used descriptive method with a case study approach to managing patients
with schizophrenia at Simpang Empat Health Center starting from assessment, diagnosis
formulation, nursing action to evaluation. In this case study using 1 family as a subject in the study
or a subject that became the center of attention or research target that one of his family members
was diagnosed with schizophrenia by a doctor.
After doing the research, it was found that there was still a lack of family knowledge in family
care with schizophrenia at home, so it was hoped that especially for nurses to emphasize more on
health education so that what was conveyed was really attached to the family, so that in their daily
lives they always do a healthy lifestyle so as to maintain and improve the health status of his
family.
