A SHORT MILITARY VOCABULARY, INCLUDING
TECHNICAL TERMS AND DEFINITIONS.
Abatis—An obstacle formed of trees or branches picketed
to the ground with their points towards the enemy.
Accoutrements—Comprise belts, pouches, bandoliers, mess
tins, haver , water bott
Alignment—Any straight line on whieh a body is formed
or is to form.
Banquette—A place upon which men stand to fire over a
Batter—The slope of the face of a structure which is not
vertical.
Biyouac—An encampment without tents or hutments.
Basin—A small of ground surrounded or nearly sur-
rounded by hills,
Base—A place where the Line of Communication originates,
The area where the advanced depts are situated, and
where supplies are issued to field units, is called the
advanced base,
