EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: * Lays out work according to job orders, blueprints, specifications, rough sketches and/or from technical experience and judgment; * Assembles, installs and repairs pipes, fittings and fixtures for water and waste disposal systems and gas, steam, air and water heating systems; * Connects water and gas heaters, furnaces, appliances and other fixtures; Inspects and tests systems for malfunctions and determines extent and estimated cost of necessary repairs; Replaces or repairs and adjusts valves and other fitings; Observes safety rules; Keeps simple records and makes reports; Performs other related duties as required. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Attainment of journeyman rank as a plumber. A valid certificate of qualification as a Journeyman plumber issued by the Long Beach Department of Building and Safety or a California Plumbing Contractors License. City employees who have gained required experience in a training capacity must Present at time of filing a properly approved "Verification of Work Experience” form. Willingness to work irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and nights as needed. A valid motor vehicle operator license or permit. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Incumbents in this classification have intermediate/journey-level knowledge and skills in four (4) ‘or more of the construction trades. This is the journey level classification related to the Skilled Crafts Worker series. Incumbents in this classification perform work of a manual nature, which requires a high degree of mental and physical dexterity. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Skilled Crafts Worker III by the performance of the journey level uties and responsibilities within an assigned area, such as cabinetry, carpentry, locksmith, metal | fabrication and machining/welding, plumbing, painting, and sign making... Incumbents in this classification may be assigned to any maintenance area to assist crews with assigned duties and responsibilities. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
