Fidel and me visited the National Gallery in London two weeks ago.

We had gone to London

because we participated in an internacional congress of education. After some days since we
had arrived, we had the opportunity to visit the National Gallery. However, we could stayed
there for only about 40 minutes. As we were walking through the museum rooms, Fidel stopped
suddenly in front of William Shakespeare´s portrait. John Taylor had painted this portrait and it
is the only painting which is kept since his age. This portrait was the first one that has been there
since the National Gallery’s foundation, in 1856. Fidel was so moved by the picture because he
has always admired the biggest playwright in the history. While Fidel was contemplating the
picture I kept walking through the gallery. There was the painting which represent the
Conservative Party Conference with Margaret Thatcher at the helm. This conference had been
held in Brighton in 1982 at the time of the Falklands War and the painting was finished by Paul
Brason in 1985. I was thinking in Margaret Thatcher’s lidership when I felt someone was looking
at me. I turned around and I saw two deep blue eyes stared at me and a mysterious knowing
smile as the Mona Lisa’s one. There, in front of me, was Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge who
had been portrayed by Paul Emsley using hyperrealistic techniques. I felt that she could
understand my thoughts and shake my hand through the painting. I don’t know how much time
I spent in front of her, but I could see no more paintings. Then Fidel came for me and we went
to the hotel to take a rest.
