Home Visit
30 January 2018
The child I visited for the home visit is W.D. His parents are M.D. & B. D. W. also has

an older brother named C. who attends Hillcrest Elementary. Something I found coincidental is

that C. recognized me from when I supervise at Hillcrest. Until this semester, I haven’t been

placed in his classroom, but now I’ve been in there three times already. We also got to meet

their dog, O., which W. talks about often.

Teacher Kylie was very personable and down to earth with the parents and W. and C.

She carried conversation with them and asked questions about things they like to do. The parents

told stories about W’s. childhood, which was fun to hear. We spent the evening just learning

more about the student and their family system.

The home visit was a great experience and I am glad I attended. I got to make a

connection with W. before preschool even started. I learned that W. has a lot of energy but has a

great imagination for ideas in the classroom. Teacher Kylie asked W. if there was anything

specific that he wanted to learn about in lab and he had the idea of insects. He then told us all

about the bugs he knows. I learned the importance of taking the time to get to know the child and

his/her interests. W. is in our small group and this last week we have been trying to gather ideas

of what the children want and like to learn about. This assessment will help us implement lessons

that will meet the student’s interest. Our mentor teacher, Dan, also told us how important it is to

make connections with all the students at some point in lab, and not to focus on just one child.
