Electronics II Final Exam
Final Exam
1. For the RC circuit in figure 1, find the transfer function Av(s) and Av(f). Find the break frequencies,
and obtain the magnitude Bode plot. [10]
2. For the common emitter amplifier in figure 2, ICQ = 8 mA and VCEQ = 10 V. We have rx = 20 Ω, rµ =
1.5 MΩ, β = 100, early voltage VA = 100 V, gm = 0.4 S, R1 = R2 = 10 kΩ, RS = 50 Ω, RC = RL = 500
Ω, Cπ = 200 pF, Cµ = 10 pF, VCC = 15 V. Find the upper half-power frequency fH. [10]
3. Design (find all R and C values) a Wien-bridge oscillator that would produce a 2 kHz sine wave with
stabilized amplitude. Use a µ741 op-amp and a power supply of ±15 V. All chosen capacitors should
be > 0.01 µF, and all chosen resistors should have values between 1 kΩ and 100 kΩ. [10]
4. A feedback amplifier has a single pole in its gain function. The open loop DC gain, Ao = 104. The open
loop break frequency, fb = 1 kHz. β = 0.1. Draw the magnitude Bode plots for A(f) and Af(f). [10]
5. Design a bandpass filter with center frequency fo = 10 kHz, bandwidth B = 400 Hz, and DC gain
magnitude Ho = 5. Any assumed resistor value should be ≤ 100 kΩ. [10]
6. An astable multivibrator is made using a 555 timer (figure 3). RA = 5 kΩ, C = 0.1 µF. Find RB that
gives a duty cycle of 60%. Then find TH, TL and the frequency of oscillation f. 555 pins: 1 = ground,
2 = trigger, 3 = output, 4 = reset, 5 = control, 6 = threshold, 7 = discharge, 8 = supply (VCC). [10]
