Turbocharge is used in combustion engines that function to maximize the output of engine power in
the form of exhaust gases so as to increase the efficiency of the engine by adding pressure and the
amount of air entering the engine.

Karyanto (2000), said that the working principle of a turbocharger is the process of removing exhaust
gases in the motor cylinder by a piston that pushes the exhaust gas from the combustion so that the
exhaust gas in the combustion chamber is pushed out through the exhaust valve to the exhaust
manifold exhaust channel. The exhaust gas pushes a turbine wheel to produce a round. Seporos-
mounted blowers with turbine wheels produce rounds due to being pushed by combustion residual
gases which come out through the engine chimney, resulting in air pressure, air gusts which result in
compaction of the incoming air with pressure above one atmosphere into the cylinder.

Then the pressurized air is channeled to the suction manifold, then into the cylinder through the
inlet valve.

Karyanto (2000), mengatakan bahwa prinsip kerja turbocharger adalah proses pembuangan gas buang
didalam silinder motor dilakukan oleh piston yang mendorong gas buang hasil pembakaran sehingga
gas buang didalam ruang bakar terdorong keluar melalui katup buang menuju saluran buang exhaust
manifold. Gas buang menekan kesuatu roda turbin sehingga menghasilkan putaran. Blower yang
dipasang seporos dengan roda turbin menghasilkan putaran akibat terdorong oleh gas sisa hasil
pembakaran yang keluar melalui cerobong mesin, sehingga menghasilkan tekanan udara, hembusan
udara yang mengakibatkan terjadinya pemadatan udara masuk dengan tekanan diatas satu atmosfer
kedalam silinder.

Selanjutnya udara yang bertekanan disalurkan ke suction manifold, kemudian masuk kedalam
silinder melalui katup masuk.
